MotoGP Reveals Race Format for Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup with 4 Teams and 9 Riders Registered!
MotoGP has revealed a provisional weekend format for the new Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup, which will debut at select Grand Prix rounds in 2026. This new series marks the world’s first global racing championship dedicated exclusively to high-performance Harley-Davidson Bagger motorcycles!
Dorna Sports and Harley-Davidson announced a working partnership at the end of the 2024 season, as MotoGP looks to expand its reach in the United States and the latter in Europe. Last year, MotoGP and Harley-Davidson announced the first-ever Bagger World Cup, which will form part of the grand prix support bill at six rounds in 2026.
At most events, there will be two 20-minute practice sessions on the Friday of a grand prix weekend. Qualifying, again run over 20 minutes, will be held on Saturday, followed by the first race. Depending on track length, these will either be seven or nine laps. A second race will follow on Sunday, again across either seven or nine laps.
The format will be tweaked for the Italian Grand Prix, with FP1, FP2 and qualifying taking place on Friday, while both races will run on the Saturday.
The 2026 calendar includes six rounds: Americas GP at Circuit of the Americas, USA (March 27-29); Italian GP at Mugello, Italy (May 29-31); Dutch GP at TT Circuit Assen, Netherlands (June 26-28); British GP at Silverstone, UK (August 7-9); Aragon GP at MotorLand Aragón, Spain (August 28-30); and Austrian GP at Red Bull Ring, Austria (September 18-20) — the championship-deciding finale!
MotoGP has also announced that Indonesian team Niti Racing has joined the list of provisional entries. The full team list is now Niti Racing (Indonesia), Saddlemen Race Development (USA), Cecchini Racing Garage (Italy), and Joe Rascal Racing (Australia). Joe Rascal Racing has received approval to expand to a three-rider entry for 2026.
Saddlemen Race Development will field Jake Lewis and Cory West, the 2024 MotoAmerica Super Hooligan National Champion, aboard specially prepared Harley-Davidson Road Glide race machines. The team is backed by powerhouse partners including Harley-Davidson, Screamin’ Eagle, Drag Specialities, and Mission Foods.
The Bagger World Cup race bikes are built on Harley-Davidson’s Grand American Touring platform, weighing approximately 280 kg, producing more than 200 horsepower, and capable of exceeding 300 km/h on track!
A full list of riders set to race in the series is due to be announced “in the coming weeks”, according to MotoGP. The series is designed to feature 6-8 teams for a total of 12-16 riders, and nearly half the grid has already been filled!
